Dr Don Operario was a University Lecturer of Evidence-based Intervention, Research Director and Deputy Head of the Department of Social Policy and Social Work, and Fellow of Wolfson College, for the period 2004-2008. During that period, the primary focus of his research was the social context of HIV/AIDS transmission, with an emphasis on developing and evaluating theory-based social and behavioural interventions in high-risk groups. consequences of AIDS among orphans and families in sub-Saharan Africa; health, resiliency and social support among sex workers; LGBT health and well-being; systematic reviews for evidence-based HIV prevention and policy. His research has been funded by the National Institute on Drug Abuse, National Institute of Mental Health, United Nations Development Programme, SAMHSA, and the John Fell OUP Fund.
