Jo-Pei Tan (Doctoral Candidate 2003 - 08 at the Department of Social Policy and Social Work) has been awarded the Young Researcher Award (Social Sciences Category) at the University of Putra Malaysia, presented by the King of Malaysia. She was the youngest award receipient. June 2010
Sony Pellissery (Doctoral Candidate 2002-06 at the Department of Social Policy and Social Work) is awarded with an India Social Research Award in 2009. The recogniton was part of the 25th anniversary celebration of Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC) inception of Indian office. Sony's research on access to social protection won accolades in the category of 'Social Inclusion'. Using social network analysis, Sony's research has shown how village level politics results in exclusion of a large number of eligible applicants from the right to social protection. His monograph, based on his doctoral thesis titled 'The politics of social protection in rural India: A network approach to study policy processes' was published this year.
