Social Policy and Intervention Pathway

The University of Oxford is one of 21 centres of postgraduate excellence accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) as a Doctoral Training Centre. The University is one of the major providers of social science research training in the UK, and has one of the largest and most diverse pools of academic social scientists producing internationally recognised research. It is home to a number of outstanding departments, which are committed to research to develop a greater understanding of all aspects of society.

The Department of Social Policy and Intervention is an interdisciplinary centre for research and teaching in social policy and the systematic evaluation of social and psychosocial interventions. Our research draws on many disciplines including anthropology, demography, economics, health services research, political science, psychology, social policy, social work and sociology.  We welcome applicants from all these backgrounds to our doctoral programme.

For details of potential supervisors and broad topics available for DPhil research, see our two main research groups, the Oxford Institute of Social Policy(OISP) and the Centre for Evidence-Based Intervention (CEBI), where you can find details of each faculty member supervising doctoral students.  We have 2 studentships to offer for entry in 2012-13, and are pleased to invite applications for Masters-to-DPhil or DPhil programmes starting in October 2012.   Additional studentships are available to be taken in the Department for the DPhil programme if the research makes extensive use of advanced quantitative methods.

How to apply: Please apply using the standard graduate application form, and confirm with the department / faculty that you wish to be considered for an ESRC studentship. For details on applying to Oxford, go to http://www.ox.ac.uk/admissions/postgraduate_courses/apply/application_guide.html

Please note: To be considered for an ESRC studentship award, you must apply by the 20th January 2012 admissions application deadline
