A new book out today, co-edited by Professor Mary Daly, is the first comprehensive study of the Great Recession in Europe to focus on household level welfare consequences. Published by Oxford University Press, the book includes a wider comparison of thirty countries and in-depth case studies of nine separate countries. It offers new evidence on the burdens of crisis and how these are shared.
In addition to Mary Daly's chapter on 'Ireland: The Welfare State and the Crisis', DSPI's Fran Bennett has a chapter on 'UK: Changing Politics of Crisis Management'.
