Ceridwen Roberts

Ceridwen trained as sociologist at Bristol University and Imperial College and was lecturer in industrial sociology at Trent Polytechnic. She has in the past worked for the departments of employment and education.

Perviously she has been a member of the Oxford Centre for Family Law and Policy (OXFLAP), the director of the Family Policy Studies Centre, and Chair of the Advisory Committee of the UK Centre for Longitudinal Studies. She held several advisory board memberships amongst other in the Nuffield Foundation, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and  the Lord Chancellor’s Department’s Advisory Group on Marriage and Relationship Support. 

She is a member in the council of the Academy of Social Sciences (AcSS) and sits on the board of the Social Research Association. She is an academic expert on the Advisory Board for the ESRC Research Centre on Micro-social Change and the Strategic Research Board of the ESRC council.

She was the UK expert on the European Commission’s Observatory on the Social Situation, Demography and Family (1998-2004).

In 2013 she was awarded an OBE for her services to social sciences.

Research

Ceridwen Roberts' research interests are in changing nature of family life and the interplay between family change and public policy. 

Most notably in the past she has been co-author of the Women in Employment study in 1984 the first survey to look into the experiences of women in the workplace.
