Dongping Qiao is Professor and Deputy Dean at the School of Social Development and Public Policy (SSDPP), Beijing Normal University (BNU). Her academic reputation rests on her contribution on child protection, child welfare, and social policy, especially the studies of child abuse and family violence.
She has published 9 books (first author of 3 books) and 40 articles including 7 articles in English in peer-reviewed journals, for example, Child and Family Social Work, Journal of Child and Family Studies, The British Journal of Social Work, Child Abuse & Neglect, Child Abuse Review, etc.. She has led or participated in 20 research projects and is currently involved in a Key Program of National Social Science Fund “Research on the Development Strategy of China's Child Welfare”. In recent years, she has paid special attention to the policies and intervention services for vulnerable children and children in difficulties in China.
She has served in an advisory or expert role to over a dozen government and international organizations, including the “Think-tank for Children” under the State Council Working Committee on Women and Children, the China Social Welfare Professional Committee, the Council of China Social Work Academic Society, Plan International (China), Right to Play (China), and the Zhuhai Children's Protection Association. Her base in Beijing (SSDPP, BNU) is among the top 3 research units in social policy research in China.
Dongping Qiao obtained her PhD degree at the Department of Applied Social Sciences, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2008. She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in Philosophy at the BNU in 1985 and 1988. Prior to BNU, she also worked as lecturer and associate professor at the Beijing Youth Politics College (1988-1998) and as associate professor at the Capital University of Economics and Business (1998-2007).
