Rocio Herrero Romero

Rocio is a DPhil student in Social Intervention and an ESRC scholar (DTC 1+3). In the past, Rocio has worked as an assistant Social Worker in Spain and South Africa with families and adolescents in institutional care. She has also worked as a research assistant in the Centre for Human Rights at University of Pretoria and the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at University of Oxford. Over the past year, Rocio has been working as a Project Manager in the cluster-randomized trial of the Sinovuyo Teen Parenting Programme in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Rocio’s educational background includes the following: graduate degree in Law (Universidad Pontificia de Comillas-ICADE), Social Work undergraduate degree (Universidad Nacional de Estudios a Distancia), Erasmus Mundus Master Degree in International Humanitarian Action NOHA-network (Univerdad de Deusto) and MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention –with Distinction- (University of Oxford). Her studies at Oxford have also been supported by Obra Social ‘La Caixa’ Postgraduate Fellowship.

Rocio’s doctoral research focuses on family and school level protective factors for education amongst adolescents from disadvantaged communities in the Eastern Cape, South Africa. Her research is part of a larger research project called Sinovuyo Teen Study. This research study is a collaborative effort between the South African Departments of Social Development and Basic Education, UNICEF, the World Health Organisation, and the Universities of Cape Town and Oxford. 

Rocio is supervised by Lucie Cluver and James Elliot Hall (Department of Education).
