Professor Mary Daly awarded honorary doctorate by Roskilde University, Denmark

Professor Mary Daly, Professor Emerita of Sociology and Social Policy at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention (DSPI), has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Social Sciences by Roskilde University in Denmark. 

The honorary doctorate, conferred on 18 September 2026, recognises Professor Daly’s internationally recognised research in the fields of care, family policy and welfare state research, as well as her significant contributions to contemporary social policy. 

Roskilde University highlighted Professor Daly’s pivotal role in establishing care as a central analytical perspective in welfare state research. Her work has also advanced understanding of the relationship between the state, family and market in the organisation and provision of care. 

Professor Daly founded and leads the Care Initiative at Green Templeton College.
