At DSPI, we strive for excellence in everything we do. As one of the highest-ranked Social Policy departments in the world, our work has an enduring impact across the globe. Our long-standing research endeavours are reflected in our publication output and policy influence.

Currently there are approximately 35 separately funded research projects, with more than 40 research staff and an annual turnover of approximately £3.0m as of the end of our financial year 22/23.

Research Excellence

In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF) exercise, 62% of our overall research submissions were categorised as ‘world-leading’ (4*). We are one of the highest scoring departments in social policy (and any subject) in the United Kingdom.
