Dr Miranda Simon

Associate Professor of Causal and Experimental Methods in Politics and Social Policy

Dr Miranda Simon

Miranda’s research examines how states, international organisations, and bilateral agreements govern migration, and the mechanisms through which these policies and interventions shape the decisions of migrants, refugees, and the communities that host them. Her work combines field and survey experiments with quasi-experimental designs, spanning empirical settings across Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. 

Her work has appeared in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Political Science Review, the American Journal of Political Science, the British Journal of Political Science, and International Studies Quarterly, among other journals. 

Miranda's research has been supported by the International Organization for Migration (funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office), the Economic and Social Research Council, the Leverhulme Trust, the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, and the University of Essex. 

Dr Simon is currently on maternity leave and will be returning to DSPI in February 2027.
