Dr Miranda Simon joins DSPI as Associate Professor of Causal and Experimental Methods

Dr Miranda Simon has joined the Department of Social Policy and Intervention (DSPI), bringing expertise in causal and experimental methods and a research focus on migration and its governance to the Department. 

She is jointly appointed as Associate Professor of Causal and Experimental Methods across DSPI and the Department of Politics and International Relations (DPIR). She is also part of Oxford’s Centre for Advanced Social Science Methods. 

Her research examines how states, international organisations, and bilateral agreements govern migration, and the mechanisms through which these approaches shape the decisions of migrants, refugees, and the communities that host them. Her work combines field and survey experiments with quasi-experimental designs, spanning empirical settings across Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America.
