Dr Rossella Ciccia
Dr Rossella Ciccia is Associate Professor of Social Policy in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Green Templeton College. She is an internationally recognised scholar of comparative social policy, gender and inequality with expertise in the politics of care, paid work and welfare states.
A distinctive strand of her scholarship has reconceptualised comparative welfare-state analysis through the relationship between care, paid work and gender equality. Her research hexamines how institutions, political actors and ideas shape care and social policy, and increasingly develops questions of care justice, social reproduction and caring societies, with attention to intersecting inequalities of gender, race and class in Europe and Latin America.
She is Co-Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of European Social Policy. She has held major leadership roles in the international gender and politics community, including serving as Co-Chair of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) Standing Group on Gender and Politics and of the European Conference on Politics and Gender (ECPG). She has also been a member of the international Gender Equality Policy in Practice (GEPP) research network.
Her research has attracted competitive European funding, including a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship under the EU Horizon 2020 programme. Her work has appeared in leading international journals including the Journal of Social Policy, Journal of European Social Policy, Social Politics, Politics & Gender, Policy & Society, Work, Employment and Society, European Journal of Politics and Gender, and Social Policy & Administration.
Her scholarship has received international recognition, including the 2022 European Journal of Politics and Gender Best Article Award and the 2020 Emma Goldman Award for outstanding contributions to research on feminism and inequality in Europe. Her work also received a nominee honour for the Rosabeth Moss Kanter Award for Excellence in Work/Family Research in 2015.
