Elizabeth Thom is a Thouron Scholar reading for a MSc in Comparative Social Policy in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention. She holds a BA from the University of Pennsylvania, where she majored in Political Science and Hispanic Studies. Her undergraduate honors thesis explored Latino identity politics and voter mobilization in the United States.
Prior to joining DPSI, Elizabeth was a Senior Project Coordinator and Research Assistant at the Brookings Institution in Washington, D.C. She worked in the Governance Studies program with Senior Fellow EJ Dionne, Jr. on issues related to community and civil society, elections, public opinion, politics, and the role of religion in public life. She assisted with research and editing for Dionne’s latest book, Why the Right Went Wrong: Conservatism from Goldwater to Trump and Beyond (Simon & Schuster), and co-authored a chapter with Dionne in the book, Progressivism in America: Past, Present, and Future (Oxford University Press).
Elizabeth’s current research interests include the politics of social policy, changing family structures, parental support, and the role of education in intergenerational social mobility. She is particularly interested in benefits for single parents and early childhood education programs.
