Dr Charlène Calderaro

Charlène Calderaro is a postdoctoral researcher in Sociology and Political Science, specialising in feminism, gender and far-right politics. Her work explores the gendered dimensions of the contemporary far right in Europe, with a focus on how feminist claims are appropriated by reactionary actors. Connecting research on state feminism and public policy, feminist movements, and far-right politics, she uses qualitative and comparative methods to analyse how gender-based issues circulate across these arenas and become redirected toward exclusionary ends.

Charlène received her Ph.D from the University of Lausanne in 2024, for which she was awarded the Joni Lovenduski PhD Prize from the European Consortium of Political Research (ECPR). Alongside her work on the gendered dimensions of the far right, she also studies feminist movements and theories, particularly around feminist-Marxist perspectives and mobilisations surrounding reproductive labour. Her work is featured in Politics & Gender, Policy & Politics, the European Journal of Women’s Studies, the Anti-Trafficking Review, and Travail, Genre et Sociétés.
