Hendrik Schäfer is reading for the MSc in Comparative Social Policy and is primarily interested in the political economy of technological change, with a focus on how the digital transformation shapes innovation, productivity and labour markets. He is currently researching how the governance of skill formation systems influences innovation dynamics in semiconductor clusters in Germany and the Netherlands, with implications for industrial policy, competitiveness and the future of work.
Before Oxford, Hendrik worked as a policy advisor in the German Bundestag, where he supported the parliamentary work of a Member of Parliment in the field of health policy. He also gained experience in the private sector at a Health-Tech start-up in Berlin.
He holds a BSc in Economics and Political Science from the University of Potsdam and a MA in European Studies from the Humboldt University Berlin, University of Bath and Unversitá degli Studi di Siena.
