Person type:

I am a Senior Lecturer and Qualitative Researcher at the University of the Witwatersrand. I am a qualified and registered Social Workers with the South African Council for Social Services Profession. I hold a Doctoral degree in Social Work from the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. The focus of my PhD research was on father absence and female headed households. The research findings led me to focused on how fathering is conceptualised in African households and societies.

I am delighted to have been selected as one of the 2025-2026 AfOx Fellows.

I would like to be invested in departmental activities and work closely with Professor Lucie Cluver to understand the work of different research groups at the Department of Social Policy and Intervention. I am also keen to work with Masters and PhD students through reviewing research work and contributing to the next generation of researchers. I plan to engage with postdoctoral researchers and academic staff members to explore collaboration, develop research proposals and respond to external funding calls. Finally, I would like to host a special seminar where I will be presenting my research and academic citizenship, teaching and learning in the profession of Social Work.
