George Rappa is reading for the MPhil in Comparative Social Policy and is primarily interested in the effects of climate change on welfare regimes globally. He is researching how social and economic inequalities (such as poverty and disability) are exacerbated by climate change and how welfare regimes are responding to them.
Before Oxford, George worked as a Research Assistant at The University of British Columbia on the relationship between global AI regulation and wellbeing, as a Subject Tutor for the undergraduate level, and as an Administrative Assistant for patient statistics in the Singapore Armed Forces’ Psychiatric Care Centre. His relevant volunteering experience includes chairing his high school’s Rainforest Restoration Project, which included managing a research project, and co-founding its Marine Science Society.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from The University of British Columbia where he graduated with a 90% average and was the two-time recipient of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences International Student Award. Prior to this degree, he completed the International Baccalaureate diploma at United World College of Southeast Asia in Singapore.
