Dave Kirk is Professor in the Department of Sociology and Professorial Fellow of Nuffield College at the University of Oxford. He is the Director of Research for the Department of Sociology, and a member of the Steering Committee. He is also a faculty affiliate of the Oxford QStep Centre. Dave received his Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Chicago.

Dave uses field experiments, natural experiments, and social network analysis to examine why people commit crime as well as innovative solutions to helping them to stop. For more than a decade he has been examining the consequences of the forced migration from Hurricane Katrina on the lives of former Louisiana prisoners, with a book manuscript in progress with Oxford University Press. One ongoing project, called the MOVE program, involves an experimental housing mobility program for ex-prisoners. Dave's recent research has appeared in American Journal of Epidemiology, American Sociological Review, Journal of Experimental Criminology, and The Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
