The rEUsilience project, a pioneering research project led by Mary Daly, Professor of Sociology and Social Policy, DSPI of University of Oxford, has been selected by the European Commission as a Success Story. This prestigious recognition highlights the project's outstanding impact in positioning families as a driving force for building a more resilient Europe. It is one of the few Horizon Europe-funded projects to achieve this distinction. Â
The rEUsilience project focuses on understanding labour markets and socio-economic insecurity from a familial rather than individual perspective and turns those findings into actionable social policy recommendations. The project's success is a testament to its strong comparative research design and innovative combination of research methodologies, including first-hand accounts of family life. Its interdisciplinary team includes experts from multiple European institutions working together to ensure that policy decisions provide families with the support they need to manage risks or adapt to change in an often challenging world.Â
"This recognition underscores the importance of our work in empowering different types of families to actively engage in and contribute to a resilient European society and economy," said Professor Mary Daly, the joint co-ordinator at DSPI, Oxford University. "Our goal has always been to develop practical, evidence-based strategies and critical analyses of policies to ensure that families with low resources are not left behind, and this acknowledgment by the European Commission is a significant step in advancing those efforts."Â
The European Commission’s Success Story designation is reserved for Horizon Europe-funded projects that demonstrate exceptional results and substantial impact on policy and practice. The rEUsilience project, which began in 2022 and concludes this year, is recognised to have already made a considerable contribution in building a more resilient Europe starting with more resilient families.Â
