Gretchen was among the first group of students to complete the MSc in Evidence-Based Social Intervention in 2004 and went on to complete a DPhil in 2009, conducting a randomised controlled trial with Paul Montgomery.

She also worked with Frances Gardner and Paul Montgomery on several projects as a Research Officer during her time in the department, which provided experience in a wide range of research methods including conducting systematic reviews and meta-analysis with the Cochrane Collaboration, coding observational data, and collecting primary data with children in schools. After her DPhil, Gretchen went on to work as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute of Psychiatry at King's College London. She is now a Research Fellow at the Social Research Unit, working on projects to review previous studies and conduct primary research into interventions for children.

Bjornstad says,

"The training provided at Barnett House into evaluating and applying research methods for social interventions is unparalleled and provides essential preparation for careers in research, policy or practice."
