Janina Steinert

Janina Steinert is a postdoctoral researcher at the Development Economics Department, University of Göttingen, Germany, and an Associate Member of the Department of Social Policy and Intervention, University of Oxford. Janina completed her DPhil and MSc in "Social Intervention" at this department and further holds a BA in Political Sciences and International Relations from the University of Konstanz, Germany. 

Janina's research is focused on the fields of development economics and global health. She has worked on two randomised controlled trial in South Africa (under the lead of Professor Lucie Cluver) and India, assessing the effectiveness of saving promotion programmes in alleviating financial distress and household poverty. In current work she draws on lab-in-the-field experiments and qualitative data to evaluate how gender dynamics and spousal trust may shape household financial decision-making. Janina has further worked as a short-term consultant for Save the Children, Frontline AIDS, the World Health Organisation, and the Oxford Microfinance Initiative and has had placements in the United Nations Liaison Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in New York City and at the Peace Research Institute in Frankfurt.
