Katongo Chileshe

Katongo Chileshe is a Rhodes Scholar (Zambia and St Antony's, 2018) in the Department of Social Policy and Intervention persuing a DPhil in Social intervention and Policy Evaluation supervised by Prof. Jane Barlow and Dr. Benjamin Chrisinger. Her thesis is a mixed methods investigation of barriers and facilitators to justice for survivors of sexual violence in Zambia. Prior to the DPhil, she completed an MPhil in Evidence Based Social Intervention and Policy Evaluation within the DSPI and Oxford and a Bachelor of Arts in Gender Studies at the University of Zambia.    

 

Alongside her studies at Oxford, Katongo is a Lecturer and Researcher in the Department of Gender Studies at the University of Zambia. She has also worked as a consultant on several projects including the Data 2X and Local Development Research Council Study on the Gender Data Ecosystem in Southern Africa as National Researcher for Zambia, the World bank Empowerment Pilot as a Senior Researcher, the European Union funded Support to the National Assembly Project by NIRAS as National Non-Key Expert, the Zambia Army Capacity Building Training on Gender in Peace Support Operations as Lead Facilitator, the University of East London Safeguarding Young People Project as Principle Investigator for Zambia, the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region Peace and Security Monitoring Framework as a Data Analysis Specialist.  

 

Beyond her professional and accademic work, Katongo engages in philanthropic work through a community development organisation called Kanori Initiatives which she co-founded, which provides Early Childhood Education opportunities for children in Chimbali Village, Chongwe.
